485 - TEMPORARY GRADUATE VISA

Purpose:  Australian graduates to stay in Australia past their qualification to get employment experience and further improve their skills and plan for permanent residency.
  • Post Study Work Stream (PSWS):  For international students who have recently graduated with a degree (at least Bachelor or above) from an Australian institution.
  • Graduate Work Stream:  International students who have recently graduated (usually a Trade/ Diploma) with skills and qualifications that are relevant to specific occupations in Australia needs.

COMMON CRITERIA

  • Age:  Must be under 50 at the date of lodgement.
  • English: Must demonstrate English language ability, either through holding certain types of passport or by undertaking an English test. Evidence of threshold English must be provided at date of lodgement
  • Australian Study: You must meet the 2 year Australian Study Requirement and have completed qualifications within six months of applying for the visa.

DURATION & CONDITIONS

Gradate Work stream visas – 18 months from the date of grant of the application.
PSW depends on which qualification and whether you have completed your study in a regional area in Australia. If you study in Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane your PSW duration will be:
  • 2 years: completion of Bachelor Degree, Bachelor with Honors, Masters by Coursework or Masters (Extended)
  • 3 years: Masters by Research
  • 4 years: Doctorate
Whilst on a 485 visa, you have unrestricted work rights in Australia.
You must maintain private health insurance whilst on a skilled graduate visa. 

476 - SKILLED RECOGNIZED GRADUATE VISA

This a great pathways for Engineering Graduates looking for visa option to come to Australia. This give them a great opportunity to get exposure to great Australian work culture and advanced industries consisting of world level companies, employers and technical advances. Getting an exposure and experience while holding this visa may make candidates eligible for Permanent residency.
For this visa applicant must:
• be under 31 years of age
• have completed an engineering degree at a specified educational institution in the past 2 years
• not have previously been the primary visa holder of a subclass 476 or 485 visa
When you apply, you must have completed an engineering course for which you were awarded a degree or higher qualification in the last 2 years. This could be a:
• bachelors degree
• masters degree
• doctoral degree
• postgraduate diploma
This qualification must be in an engineering discipline, such as:
• civil engineering
• structural engineering
• chemical engineering
• environmental engineering
• electrical and electronics engineering
• mechanical, production and plant engineering
• mining and material engineering
Educational institutions
You must have completed your engineering qualification at a specified educational institution. Any institution offering an Engineering qualification accredited under the Washington Accord is a specified institution.
